Let me say up front: this is not a complaint against Gizmo. It is just a report of a situation.

Yesterday evening I was in the pub, and other than the useual discussion about football, cars, politics, it was about hobbies.
And I proudly told about MMBasic and the Backshed.

One of the group pulled his phone, and asked: "what is the site name ?"

I told him "thebackshed.com", then go to forums.

Chrome guided him the a page, with a link to "the new forum", and after clicking it, we came to the new forum. For 10 seconds. Then the screen became couvered with adds. Not a bit couvered, no, there was not a single square milimeter visible of the forum site. In trying to close an add, I clicked the wrong X, and closed the tab. A new try gave similar results. I failed to get to the page where you could login. Laughter was all around, and I blushed while explaining that things are different when you have an account.

Anyway, we will not be able to attract people through mobile phones.

I understand that Glenn needs the money to keep the site up. And on an earlier remark from me, he created a donation button, and removed commercials for people that have an account. But fact is the forum is not usable for people that have their standard android phone without DuckDuck/Brave browser (filters out commercials).

On a 4K computer screen all is nice and dandy, a small popup in the center, popups on the sides, cause distraction, but you can work around it. But on a mobile phone without adds blocker it is useless.

Needless to say that the rest of the evening, besides the occasional grinning towards me, was about football.

Who remember the scene from "PLAYER ONE READY" movie, where 101 says they can cover 80% of the screen with adds, and that will bring in lots of money. OK, we are over 100%...

Browser? I'm just looking at it now using Brave on my phone and it's fine. I rarely ever use the default browsers that come on phones as they are usually rather c**p IMHO.
